User Reviews for Gordhan Thaal
Just had dinner at Gordhan ,heard lot about it, people said Gujrati thaali served here is best in town, this made my expectations a bit high. Starting with baasundi..it was too good..nice and balanced taste, then malpua was fine, place I belong to i.e. Jodhpur serves too good sweets and malpua I have eaten are out of the world so I expect same taste everywhere which I think won't be possible but malpua served here were nowhere near that taste.. patties tasted good , patra was best thing of the meal..after patra I would like to place Daal Baati which was just correctly spicy..if I talk about the main ingredients of THAALI which were SAAG tasted too ordinary again, none of them had a taste which made me ask for one more time..kadi was fine..khichdi was also fine..overall Ok Ok types food..Buttermilk was also simple..coming to Service.. they ask you too much, in starting it was nice that they are asking us for everything but after certain time it was irritating.. I had to say that we'll call you if we will need anything.. while serving one of the waiter literally was throwing the SAAG in THAALI..bit annoying.. It has been a fun experience overall but I don't think that it gives the impression of visiting again..
I always liked this place but a recent visit shattered two beliefs. First about their service and hospitality which has gravity working. Its going downwards spirally. Second about value for money. Gordhan thaal was never cheap but with crazy pricing one wants better taste and a bit of service. The staff badly needs training in serving manners. For enth number of time, the curry of subjee will stain out thaali. A second's patience may not hurt,I guess.
A must sample is Gujarati Daal. Its not way too sweet but retains Gujarat charm of daal. I like their version of daal-bati too.
And still wondering why would samosa have noodles stuffed in it? Gujarat has best snacks in the world..(My opinion). No need to make them"Chinese."

Its the ambience of Gordhan Thal that gives it an edge over the other Gujarati thali restaurants of the city in this range. The thali menu is very regular - 4 sabjis, roti/puri, dal/kadhi, rice, farsan, sweet, papad and chaas.
It was my father's birthday and we were planning a lunch celebration and Gordhan Thal was the most convenient venue for all. I thought it was the best to go to this place most importantly because they serve all food in Jain option without any fuss. And my parents strictly have Jain food. One of the reason's I have always liked Gordhan Thal is for their very cordial staff. They treat the people who come here like their own close guests. Once in a while they will come and offer you to have this or try that in the most Gujju charming way. And this goes very well with elders. So we had an amazing lunch with basundi, gaajar no halvo and patra among the regular Gujarati meal. They include one Punjabi sabji most of the times.
The rajwadi feel of the place with the decor, specifically the chairs are a great pleasure. Their waiting lounge is also designed with the same theme and is very spacious. So one wouldn't feel anxiety if there is waiting. The menu does not have novelty but I think the overall service, taste of food and ambience go a long way to make this place as popular as it is.
Zero down on this destination for a fair and square, Gujarati thali meal with a great experience!
Gordhan Thaal - Another feather in Gujarati food Industry!!
Located on S G Highway Gordhan thaal is of course becomes my family's first choice when we decide to have a nice Gujarati dinner.
This place is basically offering just Guajarati food. Outside resturant they have made some arrangements for waiting by having desi types of Khaatlas (which you will hardly find in city). Once you enter the resturant the place is like a palace.
Coming, to food as usual what other offer so do Gordhan Thaal. The size of the plate will make you feel that you are actually eating in a thaal. 4 Sabjis, roti- Bhaakhri, 2 farssans, butter milk, sweets, salad and various types of chutneys and pickles along with Dal or Kadhi and rice or Khichdi. Oye hoy... What I like the most about Gordhan thaal is their Bhaakhri and Kadhi-Khichdi. I never ever finish my dinner without eating their Kadhi-Khichdi. ;)
The resturant maintained proper hygiene and one can notice the same by the way waiters dressed.
Staff is co-operative and waiters never get tired to serve you unless you tired of eating. :P

Bit costly compare to some other Thaals in the city, however quality is never compromised. Enjoy!!
One of the best Gujarati Food resto in the city!! Started by very famous Gordhan Maharaj who used to cook at the weddings years back.
The interiors and ambience of the restaurant is built up to give an old gujarati home / haveli kind of feeling. Place would be noisy which is the usual case with most of the Gujarati Restos due to the food serving culture. The service is very quick and you can tuck in to food in couple of minutes after you take your place. Clean and neat place with enough number of waiters to attend each table in time. However, they can improve on the lightings part.
Always loved the food over here. Very vast menu of the items including lip smacking Farsans and sides. If you are a Gujarati, you will really appreciate the food quality over here. A very nice place to go out with family. Reservation is suggested as the place goes really crowded on weekends and public holidays.
