User Reviews for Zaffran
The ambience is nice. If you choose not to see mall hoppers walk by peeping in your plate, you can move in the cool indoor sitting area.
The service is courteous. They listen to you and respond.
The food is alright. Serving basa should be stopped. Despite the marination being nice, the fish doesnt have the right texture. The chicken and vegetarian starters were good. The curries were liked equally by the local and foreigner friends. Those who had the spicey drinks were happy about it.
Little overpriced though.
Have been here twice. 1st time arrived early (weekday dinner). Service was soooper fast. As and when the crowd started piling up (quite a lot of crowd for a weekday), the service started to weigh down. But the food was fantastic. really yummy,.. good quality, fresh and well cooked. good quantity.. After a few months gap.. 2nd visit was on a Saturday. The restaurant was full. Service surprisingly was equally good..! food quality remained consistant. Tummy khush..!! :)) the outdorr seating is very pleasant overlooking the lake in front of orion..!! It was good classy restaurant...
I had been here a few months ago to celebrate the fourth anniversary of my relationship, and it was a slight disappointment. Both of us love Frontier cuisine and so, after reading the reviews, we went there at around 2 in the afternoon, after a movie.
The staff were courteous and knew when to leave us alone, and gave us a little longer in choosing our food. We ordered a starter, nan, some curry I've now forgotten the name of (it was that bad!) and a couple of drinks. The drinks were exquisite, and we got a couple more of a different kind, and they were equally good. The nan was well made too, and the whole thing would have been good if it wasn't for the awful curry. It had incompletely cooked veggies, very thin gravy and a sort of rotting feel to it overall. Maybe I picked the wrong one, but in my opinion and from my experience which is admittedly different from the other ones posted here, the place was a tad bit overpriced and the starter didn't seemed to have been paid any attention to. The decor is good and the drinks, absolutely divine! Definitely worth a visit, though!
Zaffran means saffron and its a fact that a lil bit of saffron changes the dullest of dishes into lil bites of haven :) We have Zaffran located amidst the hustle and bustle of Orion mall but its not like how it seems. The place is calm, serene and a lovely setting for a perfect date. I've been here about twice and I had quite rave memories to cherish. Specialised in northwest frontier or Mughlai cuisine, you will find a lot of tikkas and kebabs on the menu. You might have had the same in other regular restaurants, but if of wish to taste it just the way it should be, Zaffran is the place.
As you enter the restaurant, a contemporary yet stylish decor welcomes you. They have a seating area outside as well, which is medium lit and creates the atmosphere for a candle light dinner. Since it was chill outside, we preferred to sit inside. The seating area is divided into sorta booths which gives you enough privacy. The ambient lighting is kept soft and the seating is made comfortable with small soft cushions. A light instrumental music was playing the background, a volume that did not hamper our conversations.
Heavenly! Of course, if you're a calorie conscious freak I'd say you let go off just to experience ex quite food here. Spicy, rich in ghee, lil bit oily and God damn tasty is the food here. We were in a mood to over do the Zaffrani thingy so we opted for the Murgh Zaffrani Shorba which tasty chicken broth. For starters, we had the Achari Paneer tikka and the Murgh Zaffrani tikka. The paneer tikka was juicy and flavoured well in spices. As for the chicken tikka, the pieces of chicken melted in the mouth and the distinct flavours from the herbs and spices were evident in the chicken grilled to perfection. Coming to the main course, we had Zafrrani Signature Butter Chiken and Rumali roti. Ah! Haven! The Zaffrani pulao has been epitomised in the movie Cheenikum but Big B, hence we couldn't just not try it. :) We ordered the Subz Zaffrani biryani, which was generously showered with the strong flavour.Albeit being the simplest dish on the table, the pulao was a winner. If you still have room for dessert, you could try the Zaffrani Phirni which was indeed a great finish to our meal.
The staff is attentive and kind. We didn't face any issues as such.
Highs and Lows:
The highs of the place can be the authentic Zaffrani food they offer. The lows can be the same since the food is a tad too rich in taste.
Final Verdict:The place is definitely worth another visit. I loved the food and the ambience of the place and yes it is definitely value for money.
Paisa Vasool, I recommend :)
The Resturant is nicely set up facing a man made lake outside Orion mall, and is open air and also has seating inside. The seats outside let you stretch yur self and laze around and give a feeling of luxury. The service is also quick. For the starter ordered the murg bangara kabab, this was really tender chicken and was marinated really well, six pieces hit the spot. Next for the mains we ordered the murg musallam as the gravy, it is a whole roasted chicken served with minced chicken gravy and garnished with boiled eggs. To go along with the gravy we orders the cheese nan, the combination was just perfect. We also ordered a middle eastern lemonade and a green apple mojito which were also Verry good. What seemed like good service in the beginning went down with the dishes the time in between the starter and main course was almost 45 mins. The bill was slightly heavy in on the pocket for two people after taxes. Other then that a highly recommended place.
