User Reviews for Dhaba Restaurant
Authentic Punjabi Food with a refreshing twist to the presentation.
As my friends and I got to the first floor and found my way to the entrance of the restaurant, we were greeted by a pretty lady who showed us our table. Perfect lighting to create the dinner mood and some nice wall hangings and paintings add to the feel.
We were given the bar menu and all of us started with our favourite beverage. I loved the Bloody Mary, the tomato juice flavour was just right. We moved on with the Tangri Kababs and Reshmi Kababs. The Tangri kababs were so soft, so juicy, they melted in the mouth with every bite. Just when I was relishing the kababs with my eyes closed, I heard the music play. Popular traditional tracks started playing when two guys and two girls took to the stage. They were dressed in colourful Punjabi outfits and started dancing. It was refreshing to see them dance so gracefully to those songs, instead of opting for the modern hip-hop remixes of Punjabi tracks. I looked around and the place was packed. Everybody seemed to know that Thursday night is the too-good-miss-night at the Dhaba.
Moving on, we ordered the Mutton Roganjosh, Dal Makhani and Chicken Tikka Masala. The waiter said Phulkas are available and we went for it. But we were in for a surprise. They had a mobile Roti counter. The chef came right next to our table with his mobile stove. There were five of us so making hot soft Phulkas at good speed is a tough task. But, once he started shaping the rotis from the wheat dough balls, it was fantastic to see him in action. He made sure the Phulkas actually 'Phulke aayein' (become fluffy). He put ghee on it (optional) and served it to the most hungry of the lot, me. The roti was soft and the curries were brilliant. The rotis appeared on my plate and disappeared into my stomach in no time. After many rotis we decided to let the man move to the next table as many were waiting for their turn to enjoy the live cooking of the most basic food item in India, Roti/Phulka. We were stuffed, happy and satisfied.
I ordered the Rabri to finish with and it was classic. My friends took Gulab Jamuns and Rasmalais and they were superb too.
Overall, a perfect place to eat, relish and hog on any day. The Thursday night dance makes it more special too. Two thumbs up to this one!
Be sure to book your table before you go!
