User Reviews for Surya Mahal Restaurant
This is one of the oldest restaurant I remember I have been going to... the food is still the same... "very good".... and quick service.... parking is some times a hassle as it is on main MI Road.... cant decide on which place to go and just want to have a simple dinner just go to surya mahal and you wont regret....
Surya Mahal perfectly defines a "Multi Cuisine" Restaurant. It is well located at the center of the city and even if the restaurant might not look as appealing from outside, you can not choose to ignore it considering the huge crowd waiting outside, especially if you have landed up at weekends. Since those long waiting time reminded me of Sarwana Bhawan @ Delhi, I chose to start with their South Indian Menu and that was when we had their Mysore Masala Dosa, trust me it was really difficult to find a PERFECT Masala Dosa @ Jaipur, and it just hit bang on. There was no looking back again, and slowly we had become a regular at the place. The best part about this place is that even though it serves a plethora of dishes, there is rarely anything that you could say is below par, and this is something very commendable as I have seen Multi Cuisine Restaurants ending up being a Specialty ones with just a few of their best selling dishes. Even after being a regular at the joint and having tried most of its dishes across all cuisines, I admit I could not try ALL their dishes, their menu is just so HUGE. Am clueless on which dish to comment upon as almost everything that we had tried, is really good. Mysore Masala Dosa, Veg Chowmein, nachos, burgers, Rajma Chawal, Chole Bhature, Rajasthani Thali, paneer butter masala, Manchow soup, biryani, mexican pizza, these are just something that instantly reminded my taste buds of the place. That's the charm of this place, you go in and order anything from their menu depending on your mood and be assured of coming out with a nice meal and tummy full :)
For everyone who is new to the city, this should be your ideal eating out destination for all the given reasons :
1. It is centrally located, very easy to find, and very convenient to reach.
2. It attracts a decent crowd, and usually have foreigners walking in as well. Has a nice ambiance and a good option for a family outing.
3. It has a huge menu to offer, and you can have either dishes you are missing at home or the one you had thought to try when you are here.
4. Despite the variety offered, your dish will taste as good as any other.
5. It is well priced, nothing of the sort that will burn your pocket.
But as everything comes for a price, here is what that may not please you much :
1.It is an all vegetarian restaurant.
2. They do not serve the national dish of Rajasthan - Dal Bhati Churma :)
3. Being a busy and a popular place, the service is little slow, staff is not as courteous as should be and the turnaround time for your order is sometimes pretty long.
But if you could chose to ignore these cons, DO make a visit to Surya Mahal.
Decided to try this restaurant after many positive reviews in Zomato and it had definitely lived upto it's expectations. Went there for the breakfast - Not many choices for the breakfast except the South Indian dishes like dosa, idly..,
This is located on the MI road just opposite to the famous Lassiwala in Jaipur.
The ambience was pretty basic but impressive and so was the decor.
Food - 4/5
Went there for breakfast and tried most of their dosa varieties. The best of the lot is the Rava Masala Dosa - the taste was out of the world. I was so tempted that I ordered one more Rava dosa! The authentic Mysore masal dosa was neither good nor authentic. ( Since I hail from south India - very high standards are set for dosa ). All the other dosas were just average. The batter was a bit sour and the masala was salty. The sambhar was above average and so were the chutneys. The club sandwich was a definite stand out.
Service - 4/5
The service were swift and prompt. Never had any issues with the re fills.
VFM - 3.5/5
Although most of the dosas were just average, Rava dosa and club sandwich compensates for all. Never tried the North Indian food, so cannot comment on that.
Overall, a pretty decent South Indian breakfast. Must try!
A superb value for money place. Bang on MI road, very accessible and quick non-fussy service. Menu has lots of variety of North Indian food. The mini- thali is not so mini, wholesome for one person. The food tastes awesome and Paneer is specially good. If you don't have much time to catch a leisurely meal, this is an apt place to catch a quick meal. Popular place expect rush hours and tourists.
the food is comparable to moti mahal, niros and Handi and at significantly lesser cost. ambience is also O.K. thali is a better option over general order. Special thali is very good and I found it better than rajasthani thali. quantity is also good and is just sufficient for even two persons. Nice place to dine in with family or business associates. Location is very good and attracts tourists. overall a very good place for food lovers.
