“Cakes – A Place Which Serves The Pleasure Of Life”
“STRESSED spelled backwards is DESSERTS.” Being a big foodie, desserts are a favorite and are a must have in my food list. Cakes at theatre road is one of my favorite confectionaries place. I prefer it over Kookie Jar as they deliver the same quality at much more honest prices, a fact that is clearly visible if you go to both these side-by-side outlets during school give-over time!
Cakes at theatre road serve desserts, bakery and fast food, and is one of the best and the most popular confectionaries in the city. The place is very spacey and serves yummy bakes. They have polite and friendly staff with nice interior décor.
I love the cakes they make and always order my birthday cake from Cakes. I love the truffle cake they make as it melts in my mouth and has a rich taste. But you can also try their mango cake and fudge cake. They also make special birthday cakes in the form of comic characters, whether it’s chubby, lazy Garfield or mischievous Tom and Jerry. There cakes are smooth and have a heavenly taste and I never get tired of eating them. You also get a variety of chocolates and breads there. Their lemon tart, nut square and chocolate boat are a must have.
The non-vegetarian items they serve are also nice. Their chicken and mushroom patties, quiches and sandwiches taste really nice. The Turkish chicken pizza and the chicken focaccia are also good.
The cookies which they make are all right – you can get better elsewhere. The same goes for their Chocolate Brownies and Choco Ganache.
Cakes have maintained their standard really well over the years, and give you no place for complaints. It is an absolutely delightful place which serves value for money. A must visit for all dessert lovers.
I prefer it much more than Kookie jar next door.... Their portion sizes are bigger and the product is fresher. Even their prices are slightly lower. Cakes pineapple cake is very nice and the chicken mushroom patty is very delicious . I do have a problem with the basic chocolate cake though, its little dry. The butter cream used in the cakes made to order is top notch.
They could maybe improve a little on their desserts. The dessert world is going places and they need to take a step forward in producing better looking pastries and add a few new experimental flavors.
What ever they produce is very consistent. Personal recommendation is the masala loaf bread and the oriental chicken puff and the chicken mushroom patty
Billions of blue blistering barnacles! I spotted a COCKROACH prancing around over the non-veg items on CAKES' display section and it almost gave me a coronary..I am forced to reduce my rating to 2.5 from 5 cuz of this.. :|
I mean, COME ON ! NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM CAKES! So many kids from the La Martinière and other nearby schools and colleges come pouring in everyday late afternoon and then we get to see THIS?!!
Am visiting this place since my J.D. Birla days..and have always LOVED their exhaustive spread of cakes, souffles, pastries , quiches, burgers, sandwiches and so on. They are sooo very filling and tasty.. (my personal favs being the marble cake, chocolate souffle, chocolate boats, crunch praline pastry, chicken barbeque pizza, turkish chicken pizza ..and the masala bread) .. BUT NEVER EVER SAW THIS AND IT WAS AKIN TO A NIGHTMARE!
I am requesting the management to please deal with the hygiene issues as fast as possible!
Definitely one of the best confectioners in the city. I prefer them over Kookie Jar since they deliver the same taste and quality for a slightly lower price range. I am a big fan of the Chicken Quiche and make it a point to have one of these at every possible visit. For birthdays I recommend the pineapple and the Chocolate Truffle cake. Both are yumm and good in their own respective tastes. Apart from these I have also tried the Egg Chicken Mayo sandwich which is light and tasty.
There is a brand new outlet which has opened near the Lords Junction (Golf Green). The quality and quantity is consistent throughout, so no avenues to complain.
I would rate it a 4
Cakes on Loudon street is also a lovely confectionery shop. Although the shop is more spacey as compared to kookie jar, but yet the pastries and patties are not as good as kookie, although the cost of their pastries and patties is relatively much cheaper than kookie, but certainly not the standard of what kookie jar is. But still the quantity and quality is good.
