User Reviews for Ocean Grill
Great place to have a buffet meal while still being seated at a table. The waiters would ensure that you get up from your table the least. The starters are served aplenty and an umpteen number of times...almost to an extent that they render the rather delectabe main course useless...The desserts are great to taste too... There's so much food that you would regret at having not got the chance to taste all that you see..Every item in their buffet meal is great to taste. Great Decor too...In a nutshell everything is great but be prepared to pay a lumpsum at the end of the never ending meal :) 5 people having wholesome food would set one back by 3500 bucks, which I think is a bit on the expensive side...But the treat is more like a retreat... Look forward to some more oceanic grilling...:P
A birthday brunch @ Ocean Grill . "Wonderful" is the word I can conclude with .Went along with wife for the buffet lunch at Ocean grill last weekend.
A complete different method of serving the buffet , if you are used to the buffets being served in top restaurants in Salt lake area.Posh location ,Nice ambiance, well lit place , the waiter guides you to the sitting place and we go for the non-veg brunch (i.e. Buffet).
Starter: Hot n sour chicken soup with hint of lemon oil that tasted great, then came the veg starters Paneer Kebab, Veg Shammi , Potato , Babycon Pakoda , Vegetable croquette.Though veg starters , it was crisp and tasty. Following which we were served by the non veg group of starters with the Mutton Shammi Kebab than the grilled chicken in barbecue sauce. Tender portions of Chicken with barbecue sauce. Than comes the fish starters, which included fried prawn tossed with sauce and boneless fried fish platters tossed with mustard sauce.Awesome starters which I kept on gulping till .Very prompt service from the staffs and they did serve everything continuously following the Buffet thumb rule.
Main Course :
Varieties of fresh green salad, chicken salad and sprout salad
Seafood Combo: Crab and prawn , kind of perfectly cooked till perfection . Than comes the grilled fish, fish fillets in a creamy white gravy . Than the chicken chilly and Mutton gravy , typical tender mutton kosha sort with choices of bread and pulaos. To be honest I was almost full with the initial rounds of starters and lost the enthu to complete the full course of dishes
I was literally dragging myself to complete the course of buffet. Desserts consisting of Caramelized pudding, Fruit Custard, Chocolate balls, gulab jamun with choice f ice creams (Vanilla & Strawberry) . Votes goes to the Gulab jamun and the yummy pudding.
Great experience overall .Changing the definition for Buffet in Salt lake area , Ocean Grill a must try for people who love seafood and experiments .Impressed with the restaurant Manager possibly who guided us during the main course making our lunch a splendid one.
Best part of 'Ocean Grill' that I liked is they have a proper feedback form which you can fill with detailed descriptions of 'what you liked' 'areas of improvements' etc.
Kudos goes for Ocean grill!
Paradise for sea food lover. The buffet spread is generous. I recommend lobster and they have mutton kebabs too in the buffet spread. Buffet also have option for Indian and Chinese in main course. They don't replenish items once they gets exhausted. You have to ask to fill them. Per head cost came upto INR 750 which is at par with its closest competitor on opposite foot, Barbeque Nation but alas not closest as per taste.
My expectations after reading the mixed reviews on Zomato were substandard. I knew I was not going to get calamari or mussels from the place, anyway. The whole idea changed as soon as I arrived at the place.
While entering, the floor has an interesting blue gel work done. It soon got me curious and I hopped about on the changing designs. Definitely bound to make one happy.
One of the attendants soon came forward to elaborate on the Sunday lunch buffet and a la carte, respectively. I was extremely impressed with the care taken to help us in making a choice.
The a la carte is not quite impressive given the prices. Somehow it needs enough revamping to push one towards random experimentation. The buffet spread was really nice though.
We started off with chicken clear soup with a smile on our face. 5/5 for the soup. Very few Chinese restaurants in fact can make such an appetising clear soup. The starters comprising chicken, fish, prawns, mutton, baby corn, paneer were brilliant. I loved the chilli babycorn, it made my vegan friend gloat with a second helping on her way. The pan fried fish I believe was basa and cooked extremely well, so was the succulent chicken and mutton dishes. The prawn balls could have been better though. It had more of the coating than the prawns.
The maincourse with its huge spread was more than enough to confuse us at a go. Noodles, pasta, pulao, name it and it is there. I am yet to understand how at such a reasonably priced buffet, they manage to give such HUGE prawns and crabs. It had the perfect sweet-sour-chilli tanginess, add to it soft and juicy. My fish loving palette was on a roll to say the least. The lemon butter fish was absolutely as tasty. In fact, given the amount of meaty starters and maincourse, my tummy failed to make any more space for the appetising looking munchurian chicken and mutton roganjosh. The desserts were pretty good too with a decent spread.
To top it all, the service here is ABSOLUTELY COMMENDABLE. To take care of customers is an art, which Ocean Grill surely EXCELS at. I would definitely suggest the buffet instead of a la carte given the reasonable price, choice and quality of spread.
Thank you Ocean Grill for a lovely Sunday lunch. :)
We ended up here as Barbeque Nation was running a one hour waiting. The buffest spread was impressive. I am only mentioning the non-veg spread here.
There were 4 starters - one each of chicken, mutton, fish and prawn. The barbequed chicken was excellent, mutton shami kebab was quite good. The fish and prawn was deep fried in batter - found the batter of the fish bit thick. The prawn tasted good but was carrying a bit too much oil in the batter. 3/5
There were 3/4 kinds of salad including a cold chicken salad - this one and the Russian salad tasted good and set off the meal well. 3/5
There were 4 dishes for the non-veg mains - a roasted chicken in pepper gravy, lal mash, basa fillets in a continental gravy and a sea food gravy with tiger prawns and crabs in it. There was a fried rice, pasta and choice of nan/breads. Both the meats were great. The fish was nicely cooked but since we were pretty filled up by now, guess our satisfaction curve was going down. The prawn in the sea food gravy was again nicely cleaned, veined and tasted well. The crab was not tasted as the shell was on and we were not motivated enough to get them cracking. 4/5
There were around 5 or 6 dessert items - 3 baked items out of which I had the cheesecake, ice cream with chocolate sauce, caramel custard and hot gulab jamuns. The cheesecake did not suit my tastebuds. The gulab jamun was yum and the caramel custard yumyum - creamy and consistent with just the right amount of sweetness. 3.5/5
The last point I want to touch upon is the Service. The team attending to us (we were a group of 10) was headed by Thomas. They were polite, eager and proactive. My wife, who is allergic to crabs was just telling me in a very hushed voice that she would not have the prawns as it was in the same gravy with the crabs. One of the waiters picked this up and got her prawns from the kitchen before they were put in the gravy. There was a deliberate effort to make the service special and you could make out that there was particular instruction on this aspect. Even the other stewards looking after the other tables seemed to be equally courteous and helpful. 6/5 for the service
The space is large, well done up (thought the sofas need more maintenance), nicely lit and the tables are at comfortable distance from each other. There is no signature cuisine or taste but its a good place to try out and a safe option for a large group due to the variety.
