User Reviews for Buffet 101
Buffet 101 is restaurant i need to visit as frequently as possible - as i am not fond of the Filipino food i really indulged on the duck, prime rib, lemon chicken, cakes and ice cream for desert, and the bottomless refills of my soft drink - we noticed the wine a little too late but is on our list for our next experience
There are days when you can't decide on one type of cuisine. You're not in the mood for Chinese food (and for the MSG-induced headache); Italian repels you (too greasy, unhealthy); Filipino food doesn't look enticing at the moment (booooring); and you don't like Japanese food (wait, who doesn't like Japanese food?). For cases like this, the obvious choice would be a buffet.
Friday night was such a night so we headed over to Buffet 101 in SM Mall of Asia--located at the left end of the bay area, facing Manila Bay (Vikings, their archrival, is at the other end). The restaurant incorporates mainly Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and American food, and although Vikings offer the same cuisines with a bigger selection of appetizers, salads, and mains, Buffet 101 boasts a huge Dessert Section that easily beats that of Vikings'. In addition, while both restaurants serve unlimited draft beer, Buffet 101 serves fruit juices, shakes, and free-flowing wine.
It took me a while to start eating. But unlike in Vikings where I was overwhelmed with the choices, here in Buffet 101 I immediately went to the Italian and sushi sections--loading my plate with pizzas, pasta, and a variety of maki. I sampled the Italian and the Sisig Pizza, which both seemed undercooked as the crust tasted like pancakes. Anything with salmon, as usual, did not disappoint: the smoked salmon and penne with salmon were incredibly good. In the Japanese section however, I spotted a fly perched comfortably on one of the rolls (which, by the way, didn't look fresh at all)!
Fortunately, the Carving Section saved the day. I devoured a plateful of tender, flavorful roast beef and several servings of their juicy Wagyu steaks. Perhaps this was the only thing I especially liked about our buffet dinner. You can request which meat you want, tell them how to cook it, and the waiters will deliver it to your table.
Overall, I am not sure why I did not enjoy Buffet 101 that much--the food was good, it's just that I have tasted better. Or perhaps it was because we had movie reservations after, so we had limited time to eat (PLUS I was working while eating, don't ask why). Or maybe I was disappointed with the selections-- for an Unlimited Food and Drink price tag of PhP950, I was expecting something as huge as Vikings'. I guess I'll be coming back to Buffet 101 for the steaks, and just eat steaks all day long just to maximize what I paid. Or if I want to engorge myself with fruit shakes all night long, but unfortunately, I don't. Going there for the unlimited wine? There are other better restaurant options--though the idea of limitless steak and wine sounds good, if not deadly. I'm not that much of a dessert aficionado as well, so I guess for variety and quality, I would choose Vikings any day.
Even though it wasn't such a pleasant experience, I am still willing to give Buffet 101 a second try. Strategic eating might be the key to enjoying it--which I forgot to apply this time.
If you're looking for a place to catch up with your friends for hours and you're okay to ruin your diet, Buffet 101 International Cuisine is THE ONE!
Buffet 101 can be put in comparison with Sofitel's Spiral, with elegant food and top notched service to match. And oh, their ambiance is a delight. They have HUGE glass chandeliers all beautifully set up high above the long tables and comfortable chairs. There's plenty of cuisines to choose from, from appetizers, main courses, drinks to desserts. Not breaking news, but Buffet 101 at the SM Mall of Asia compound wins over Vikings, if you ask me.
Another must-have preparation is to have light meals throughout the day before dining here and don't be guilty to overindulge as this posh experience would only come once in a while. Wear loose clothing as well. Remember, you are warned. :-)
Buffet 101 will just be your destination if you are with your barkada whose intention is to make the most from a fixed cost meal. Imagine rows and rows of fine food selection all waiting to be devoured by you and your takaw friends. Appetizers, seafoods, meats, veggies, pasta, pizzas, a wide selection of desserts and even red and white wine. Really great for diet freedom lovers. Eat, eat, eat!
It was the 50th birthday of my mom last March and they decided to try out this "Buffet 101" restaurant. I had no idea of what kind of restaurant this was, but as i entered i just said to myself, the place was packed! but even without any reservations, they were still able to accommodate a group of 23.
Food: the food was great! they were all cooked with a happy heart! they definitely put their hearts into it! "the food just keeps on coming!"
Service: the staff always approached to you with a smile whenever you needed someone, the would always refill your glasses with water and not needing to ask for them to refill it for you.
Overall: i would highly recommend this to people who would like to celebrate anything, if you want something different? go to Buffet 101
