User Reviews for Area 69
You might just miss this place if don't know there is a restaurant behind the tin coverage. To the say the least, it appears very different on the outside and is as different on the inside. In the BYOB category, it has the most amazing food!
To enter, you have to pay a cover charge of 500 per head. Save that little slip given to you there for if you lose it, you will have to pay the charge again. Get in to see a couple of wooden benches on your right and they have made an attempt to replicate a street scene, with stones on the ground, street light type lighting and a semi open space. It's open enough to give you fresh air when you crave some [this not being a smoke free zone] yet closed enough to offer you privacy.
The service was fast and the waiters were attentive enough. When they saw me squatting a mosquito or two near my table, they jumped to light a coil and rescue us. After that, we were happy enough to dig in.
We ordered the Chicken Peri Peri and Cajun Fish in Tartar sauce. It was the yummiest Peri Peri I have ever had! A perfect balance of flavours that take you to gastronomical heaven. Delightful. The fish was equally well done, served with mashed potatoes - a perfect one again. We liked the Peri Peri so much that we got some packed to relish again in the privacy of our home. It was that quick a love affair.
It's a great place to sit and relax with some great food and ambiance. The crowd can be a little dicey when the place is crowded as the BYOB draws this negative. However, do go there to start your own love affair with the Peri Peri!
Who went: Two people.
Order: 69 Pork Sausages, Stuffed Baked Mushrooms with Salsa.
Experience: This concept of buying alcohol from a nearby place and drinking it in a restaurant is a curious concept, one that I have never come across except in Gurgaon and Delhi. This works wonderfully well since you don't have to pay tax on it and you can simultaneously enjoy a restaurant ambience while drinking it. We bought beer from a place close-by and entered here. The parking for this place becomes a little difficult, especially if you come later in the evening on over the weekend. The crowd mainly consists of people who want to have a drink after office, fairly decent with little chance of being harassed by someone on another table. The music is largely English music; rock, pop rock, pop, etc. Not too bad, I say. Also, the volume of the music is appropriate and you don't need to shout in someone else's ear to make yourself heard. While we were sitting there, the lights went out. They don't have a generator system and we had to sit in the heat and the dark.
Now, the food. The pork sausages were lovely. The vegetables and the sauce it was served with were especially well done and the taste lingered in our mouths for much longer (even after drinking beer). The mushrooms, however were not very well done. The entire dish lacked spice and flavour. While mushrooms are best when done mildly, these mushrooms themselves were tasteless. The filling was bland and the salsa could ave been so much better. The menu, though, has a lot of variety on it and I suspect their food is largely quite good.
Overall, a nice place to catch up with people after work. This place has my approval!
I have been to this place a lot of times before too...then it was Route 69....
Last night being a Tuesday we knew no other place would be as lively as this one... and I was dying to drink :P
Ok so for the first timers.... this is a place with the concept of get your own drinks... so you get you own or there is a liquor shop just besides, so you can easily buy from there too...
We bought ours from the shop close by and very conveniently they even accept the card. We sat and ordered food as the starters take time.. so we ordered for a chicken tikka..
The aerated bottled drinks cost 80 bucks for a mobile bottle...they don't have juice options or diet coke options... you can call for regular colas and sodas.
you cant get colas or juices from outside though...
They will give you convenient plastic glasses...rupees 15 each... Free ice box along.
The starters were taking time so we started with our drinks... the place was almost full of people.
The chicken tikka arrived....undoubtedly it was a little overpriced for small 8 pieces of chicken 280 or 300..but the dish was yummy.. absolutely stunning.. it was a close competition to Rajinder Dhaba's chicken tikka... which I believe is the Winner tikka...
Then we called for the chilly chicken... it was quite a dish toooo...lip smacking and yummy... and huge quantity... lasted us for 4 dinks and filled us up completely...it was too good for its price 300 bucks
The menu put up here is old I believe. Prices have gone up.
the service is poor but then we cant even expect them to be very professional with that kind of a set up... Satisfactory though...
If you are looking for a great fun time with chilled out atmosphere after office then this could be your regular hang out.
Now known as Area 69 ! Its a good place if you just wanna have some drinks and chill out with your group of friends.....You can grab your drinks from the next door liquor shop and pay a cover charge of 500 bucks per head .....The outdoor seating is nice and cozy, indoor seating is not bad either. The first time I went there(when it was Route 69) was for a get together and I was pretty impressed by the place, concept and surprisingly the starters were not bad either..the second get together was also good....however my last visit really disappointed me in terms of service and quality.....Almost 80% of the menu was NA including the simple cold beverages like lime soda and other soft drinks...we had to get hold of the waiter to ask about the status of our order(whatever lil was available to eat) as it just took ages...and if you have a critical friend in the group it becomes extremely difficult to handle the situation if you have suggested the place......The manager was to busy to come and answer why there is hardly anything available......Though i liked the place however I have become a lil skeptical to back especially with a group of friends as it becomes embarrassing........
(re-rating after 3rd time UNLUCKY BAD EXPERIENCE AT THIS PLACE-NEVER GOIN BACK)
here is what i wrote last:
So, I have been going to this place almost from the time it came into existence.
Undoubtedly, we have had some great times here. Still remember, the first few days this place was waiting for the liquor shop to open up & allow drinks in only then.
The ground floor indoor & outdoor seating both interesting looking till date, pull enough and more crowd daily. Soon after they introduced the roof top, we started visiting more than often. It was my fav place. Complete value for money. Good service. Great food.
What I loved having here:
- Cheese cigars
- bell pepper rolls
- fried rice
- chilli potato
- fish fingers (for friends)
and so much more..
Today the place has 2 terraces, ground floor outdoor & indoor.
The service has fallen badly because its mostly overcrowded with lots of people who should not be there (sadly I have to say this).
Wonder why the food quality has dipped down so much. I sincerely hope that next time (if) whenever we visit, the food quality has bettered.
Ratings include the good & not so good times at the place.
