One of those places that just gives you a good vibe. The place is really happening and comes alive after 9pm. If you happen to be here then always choose the option to get seating in the basement. The expenses here are on a steeper side than your next door "Brix", but this place is jam packed and the music is awesome. The food here is good (not exceptional), the French fries are worth trying and the main course tasted really good. All in all a really good place to spend your weekends with friends.
Recently went there. Man it was crowded. There was no place to sit but with the help of the manager, got a couple of stools at the bar. Service was a bit slow to start with but it picked up later. Can understand it as the staff seemed very short to serve the crowd that evening. Could not have much food but the environment was exhilarating. Good to have places like these in Gurgaon. The beer was on the lighter side but highly recommended place for beer and pizzas and some fun time with friends
Table for: 16
Day: Weekday (Yesterday to be precise)
Lighting: Darker side
Note: Rated 9/10 because everything has a scope of further improvement.
Occasion: Birthday get-together / party.
My friends had earlier taken me to DownTown, it being their favorite hang-out place. Was impressed back then, and this place turned out to be better than before. It was brimming with frequenters and it was good we reached early enough (around 7:20 pm).
The music and X-Box Kinect serve a great way to keep you on your toes instead of slouching on a chair and restricting yourself when in a huge group.
Food: Straight to the food/snacks we ordered:
Repeats of French Fries, the Mediterraneo Pizza, Potato wedges, mixed non-veg kebab platter and a few others which I just can't recall :)...Everything was crispy and totally satiated my hunger, at least for the time being.
We ordered scores of the king sized dispensers. And the beer was totally amazing, freshly brewed and with the right amount of fizziness to cause just enough fuzziness to make it back home :)....
A lot of bowling in spurts, and after a long time too...Got 4 strikes in a row...So well, next time will play a full game and try and beat my personal best of 178 @ Amoeba...
Great place, a definite visit if you haven't already been there...
For the Bangalore guys who loved erstwhile Bunkers, you will definitely love DownTown...
If I had to describe this place in a single word, that would be- kickass!
When we reached this place, we were greeted by an awesome sign board that said “Harley Davidson Parking”. Before entering, the usher asked for our IDs, though none of us was or looked underage. I was happy to see someone complying with the rules. That rarely happens!
As soon as we opened the door, it was like a totally different world. The music and the energy of the place totally rocked. The place looked like an English pub that we often see in the movies, especially the basement. Downtown has mostly been done in wood- the furniture, bar counter, staircase and even the walls have wooden beams. This gives it the look of a cozy bar in a snowy town. I totally loved it.
The last time we went, it was a Sunday evening and so the basement was full. We took a table on the ground floor with the beer brewing equipments in the background behind a glass wall. Perfect seat for a pub that serves freshly brewed beer.
We asked for beer tasters first and decided to order a dispenser of wheat beer. It was reasonably priced at 1,095!...and the beer was pretty good. Brewed beer is always such a welcome change from pint beer!
In food, we ordered Crispy Fried chicken burger, dahi kebabs and fish & chips. Everything arrived shortly, though the burger took a while. But it wasn’t too long. I was quite impressed with their service coz the place was bustling with people. They had customers coming in through the doors every five minutes and when we left, there were a lot of people waiting outside!
The dahi kebabs were good. Not bland like the ones I have eaten everywhere else. Also, they are always so supple that it’s quite a task to eat them. But these were just right amount of soft and had a slight hint of flavor. They came on an interesting tray that had a stone top.
The fish and chips were perfectly made and served. They came with potato wedges, tartar dip and lettuce on the side, in a cute oval cane basket. The presentation bore testimony to the laid back spirit of the place as well as the casual munchy starter that fish & chips are. They had a perfectly crispy crust, very well fried and not in the least oily. The core was soft and each bite was a delight. The fish and chips vanished off the table the quickest!
Lastly, came the burger. Oh, it was so beautifully plated (see picture). The burger came with fries and coleslaw salad. I loved the cutest little white ceramic saucers that they used for dips in both the dishes. The top bun of the burger was tilted so as to boast of the extremely tempting layers of lettuce, chicken patty and oodles of cheese. The inside of the top bun was layered with mayonnaise. As soon as the burger arrived, I could not wait to take a bite and it was perfect. My mouth was exploding with chunks of chicken wrapped in delicious cheese and mayo. It was one of the very rare times that the fries were served with a dip and that too not just a random cheese dip but delicious coleslaw dip. This combination tasted so good that I have to admit, it did distract me from my burger a couple of times.
And the music!!!... They have the most amazing playlist of various rock genres. They have a big projector which plays the videos. They played everything from Pearl Jam, Nirvana to Linking Park, Maroon 5. We were going crazy with every song. They were all classics!
It was one of those times when you pick just the right place to hang out with your friends and everything works to make it a perfect night. This place could very well be dubbed as the Hard Rock Café of NCR!
Sector 29 market has grown really fast over the last 2-3 years. I still remember when there were hardly a couple of places there in 2010. Now, you have a good range of cuisines and ambiance to cater to your palate and mood.
Downtown is a microbrewery and we have seen a lot of those open up in Gurgaon. So, I know there would be a lot of conflicting opinions on who has the best beer, but Downtown is my personal favourite. Their beer feels just right – a good balance of freshness and strength. I prefer the dark option myself, but I have seen a lot of my friends enjoy their wheat beer, which is slightly milder than the dark. Take one based on your preference.
As for the food, there’s nothing exceptional, but you have a good variety to keep you company with the beer. We have had non-drinkers accompany us at times, and considering that they have not been overly bored or disappointed, I'd say the restaurant does a fair job.
The ambiance is again just right. Try to get yourself seated in the basement if possible. The seating, lighting and music there is much better. There a slight segregation of base area based on loud and not-so-loud music. Again choose one as per your preference. And there is an Xbox Kinect set up as well, if you feel like a bout of boxing after a couple of beers.
Keep in mind that it's really crowded on weekends, and you might have trouble finding a place. Otherwise, a perfect place for some beer with friends.
