Get a reservation! Luckily,we got to sit in the patio, was very hot in the restaurant. Food was good, not what we expected with a name like south city kitchen. Atmosphere was fun

Restaurant gas good ambiance as it is in a restored house with cool fixtures. Bar tender was great. She had good suggestions, great personality, and made very good drinks. She was top notch. We were seated at a downstairs table as in other reviews a bit on the loud side, but not too bad. The waiter was a young man that obviously did not enjoy his job or being there. He was in a rush to get us out as it was the end of the night. He was terrible! The food was overall good but not so spectacular, I will say that no one ordered the fried chicken or shrimp grits that seem to be there signature dishes. I regretted not trying either of these. All in all really a 3.5 star place. It was the end of the night and a bad waiter so I would probably give a second chance.

This is Southern food at its best. It is not the mushed up vegetables that you get at the little Southern dives. It is much more elegant and creative. The chef is creative in modifications of Southern food to make it much more elegant. It has a nice sized menu so it has something for everyone. They also have good cocktails.

I have been there for dinner, lunch with friends, and even a business meeting with a large group. It was great each time.

I would certainly recommend this to anyone, not just people that want Southern food specifically since it is more broad than that.

First time visitor. Server told us the wait was an hour for 2. But walking to the bathroom I saw 5-7 empty tables. I reviewed a text 18min after serving my table was ready. Server wasn't the best, somewhat awkward. Collard greens were salty and grits were very good. My boyfriend enjoyed the chicken and waffle. I had the pecan waffle which I wouldn't recommend. It was a basic tasting waffle with full size pecans. Although I was told by a server they were tiny pieces of pecans. I would go back again but order different food. 3.5 for the restaurant ambience and grits.

Visited South City Kitchen the other day for brunch and was very impressed. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cool and streamline. While waiting for food, the restaurant gives complimentary biscuits and corn bread with spread options of peach jam or butter. As a starter, we ordered fried green tomatoes. They were some of the best I have ever had. They were battered and fried very well. For our entree we ordered a sausage biscuit with gravy and the south city breakfast. The biscuit was delicious and the gravy was outstanding. The south city breakfast came with grits, Parmesan eggs, and bacon. Everything tasted delicious and hot. Although I'm not a huge fan of grits, and should have switched them for the fitterlings. Overall, the presentation of all the food, the prompt and courteous service, and the feel of the restaurant was outstanding. The food can be a bit a bit pricey, but the quality of the food matches the price. Definitely worth a try. And definitely will return.

  Mighty Fine

We hadn’t been to South City Kitchen for several years, although we did remember it fondly. We visit Atlanta occasionally and thought it was time to go again. Sure glad we did.

I started off with our server-recommended cocktail, “Smoke & Mirrors”. It was simple and wonderful. From there we shared the fried green tomatoes which were very good and unusual with a layer of goat cheese between the tomato and the panko bread crumbs. Next we shared the Maryland crab cake which was also very good. But both could have used some more seasoning.

We moved on to a bowl of the she-crab soup which was rich and delicious, though a bit more pepper would have been good. Then we shared the wheatberry salad which didn’t look very large but was so rich and filling that we couldn’t have eaten more.

For our main course we shared their fantastic fried chicken. My wife declared it some of the best fried chicken she has eaten. On the side we had the... read more

The best brunch ever!!! Great service, atmosphere and food! Highly recommend the chicken and waffles! Also, the biscuits and cornbread are a great added touch to go with the southern flare.

The menu and service were on point. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese and crab cakes for appetizers. Shrimp and grits were flavorful. Also got to taste the filet! Absolutely delicious and has a little spicy kick. Notable wine selection.

This restaurant is placed in an antiquated bungalow - and possesses a rather charming atmosphere. For appetizers, we ordered the fried green tomatoes, goat cheese, red pepper coulis. For the entrees, we ordered the ried springer mountain farms chicken, garlic collards, smashed red bliss potatoes, honey-thyme jus and the shrimp and red mule grits, poblano peppers, house-made tasso ham, smoked tomato gravy. The chicken dish was disappointing, due to inadequate flavors and batter that was caked on the over-fried chicken. The shrimp dish over grits was amazing and easily indulged - who doesn't love anything with grits these days...? If comfort food is your guilty pleasure, you can't get any more soothing than eating a heavy southern meal to curb your appetite at this place. Lastly, the service was spectacular.

For whatever reason, the Midtown location is much better than the Vinings one. Anyhow, SCK serves my favorite she crab soup and you absolutely cant go wrong with the fried chicken. Hidden gem for me, though, is the fried chicken salad. The desserts are out of this world as well.
