Really liked the ambience of this Place. Exceptionally friendly servers and amazing food. The hot pot was such a cool thing. I'd ordered a vegetable platter along with scezwan, spicy base which was big enough to fill 2-3 people.
Do NOT miss out on the sauce. With a little bit of garlic, it blends perfectly with the platter.

Very good Szechuan spicy hot pot.
Try the surf & Turf (seafood and a choice of meat).
Must improve the service at the tables.
Excellent Gyozas!

Love the hot pot at Q. Th.... Love the hot pot at Q.

This is better!

Shabu-fun. What could be better on a January day than a bubbling pot of beautifully-spiced broth? My pork bouillon had black cardamon, whole cloves of garlic, and many other unfathomable delights. The staff were extremely helpful in explaining how to eat, which essentially means how to cook the array of meat and vegetables placed in front of you.
The beef was great; the lamb was sublime, beautiful with Mongolian sauce and udon.
I was there between lunch and the staff lunch, so it wasn't so busy, but the staff were delightful and the atmosphere receded altogether once I started cooking my noodles in the delicious stock.
I went three times to this restaurant. All the times i loved! I am not the kind person who cares about the waiting, or the stuff, i just care about the food. I really enjoyed the food and i recommend it! Go there and try the hot water pot.

A ok. Nothing against them personally, but i always prefer to do hot pot at home instead. eating out, yes, saves me the trouble of prepping, but i get to pay double for half the food, and i don't always want everything that's included in the set. ordering extras (ex. beef ball was $4 for, like, 6) is even more costly than the $20 set w/few slices of beef to begin with.

besides, the essence of hotpot is in the soup--which is very ordinary here. nothing a pot o' water and some chicken bouillons can't do.

even so, yeah, $20 should get you filled w/all the stuff they provide. but w/the few slices of beef and a large chunk of vegetables, i really can fare much better at home w/that budget. eating at home also takes away the long lines, the noise, parking issues in ctown, etc. and while hot-potting IS potentially a sweaty business, at least when at home, i can take off my sweater as freely as i want.

one thing i appreciate about this place (if i remember... read more

What I miss most about Boston.. I'm a native Philadelphian who found herself living just outside of Boston for about a year. While I don't miss the terrible winters or the terrible drivers (Massholes), I do miss Shabu-Zen! If you're not familiar with Shabu style dining it is also sometimes referred to as "hot-pot" style.

Basically, you cook your own meal in a pot of broth that is placed in front of you on a hot plate. It is AWESOME!!!!

The wait staff is very friendly, the food is amazing, and it's just plain fun! I wish we had one of these in Philly.

Nice place in heart of Chinatown. Local friend took us there while visiting. Once you figure out the parking problem on the VERY narrow street (what is it about every Chinatown?), we enter a very well lit and clean establishment.

Pricey, as is any Shabu place, but this place was by far worth it. Staff very friendly and attentive. They make some very good smoothies for dessert too. I had the lychee blended and it really helped cool my mouth from all the peppers I put in my dipping sauce.

Places such as Shabu-Zen is wonderous, filled with food so delicious I never want to leave.

Enter Shabu-Zen, at 16 Tyler Street, Boston, MA. A place I found wandering around Chinatown in Boston looking for warm food on my lunch break on a cold winter day. This is a place you wouldn't recognize from any advertisement, or would even know existed unless someone pointed it out to you. A favorite among the locals in the area, this is definitely a hidden treasure.

Classified as a "hot pot" restaurant, also known as shabu-shabu style, you enter and seated either at a table, or in the center which is definitely the place I want to sit. All of the action is taking place in the center. All the locals eat, all the food is delivered, and all the staff are there constantly to ask you if you need anything else.

In the table, or in front of you, is an individual electric hot plate in which a pot is set. You are given a simple menu containing a list of meats... read more
