Red flags were popping up when I stopped in earlier in the day to make a reservation. The reservation desk and bar area reeked--smelled like a sour mop and dirty feet. I was shocked that it still smelled bad, because I visited several months ago and it smelled the same way. I thought it was a fluke--carpet got flooded or something. But when I came back months later and it smelled the same (but worse)? That means something is seriously wrong with this place. All that culminated with a roach floating in my expensive cocktail, and the host/manager not really apologizing or offering to do anything for us. He acknowledged that the restaurant reeked, but he said they were planning to re-carpet ... Hmm. That won't address the filthy conditions and the fact that they mix cocktails in glasses that have roaches crawling around in them.
There are so many good restaurants in Charleston ... Why waste your time on one that smells like ass and has cockroach cocktails?

Yes, this is a roach in my cocktail. And where there's one roach, you can expect that there are MANY MORE running around the kitchen and bar. This is my favorite restaurant in the world, at least for now. I have been numerous times and have always had a five star experience from the food, staff and atmosphere. This is my go to place in Charleston and for anyone living there that likes food they will know that is a tough decision. The fried chicken they serve is amazing, the best in the city. All the appetizers are great, and the biscuits they serve you when you arrive are always hot and freshly cooked. Highly recommend trying if you are visiting the city or living there.

This place has gone down a cliff in the past years. The food is sub par, more like a microwave dinner. The salads taste as if they are out of a kit and nothing spectacular. The service is good, but you have the feeling that it should be better. Checking on you, asking how dinner is, more water, etc. The food was the biggest let down. It really reminded me of a Le menu TV dinner.

Great food and great service. We came for lunch and food was very good. I have the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and substituted green beans for collard greens. The chicken was two pieces of boneless chicken. I didn't know the lunch portion would be so big. I couldn't eat it all. Hubby got the shrimp and grits. Food was hot, fresh and homemade. The biscuits are fabulous.
