Common Man is a lovely brunch/brekkie/coffee restaurant that has plenty of seating and fast service to ensure seats even during busy times!  Car park in the building is a nice extra in this tightly-packed neighbourhood. The interior is refreshingly different from the ubiquitous minimalist, Ikea-clad cafés. It’s like a slightly odd but pleasing mix of local flavours, American diner and cruise ship bar. Went here for a Sunday mid-day brunch hoping to avoid the long wait in Bangsar. It was very full and thanks to tight spacing of tables, bare interior and background music we found it too loud and finished our food quickly. It is a shame, because the food is good, staff is absolutely lovely and there is a tiny kids' corner with a film on - all the ingredients for a lazy lunch/brunch if it wasn't for the loud and chaotic atmosphere. Must return during a quieter period. As a nice touch they deduct the first hour of parking downstairs (a breeze).

It is difficult to find fair-priced “gourmet” (i.e. interesting, unique ingredient combinations) sandwiches in KL so we were happy to discover Pickle & Fig last year. The main draw is the sandwich menu, all served with a side of chips and salad, but the coffee is not bad at all. The espressos are potent and flat whites full-bodied. A huge communal table dominates the large space. If you decide to take the kids along, it’s a great space to relax with one of the free-to-use, old-school games available like pick-up sticks. They have a small selection of desserts and smoothie concoctions.

Thursdvys is a well-designed space with geometric construction, angled walls and unique accents. Light pours through the slanted windows complemented by a long window seat you can easily sink into with a book and a cuppa. They serve theirs as ristrettos, either black or with milk prepared in 3, 6 or 9 oz. cups. Having been spoiled by Artisan, we find the coffee here ok. We haven't tried out the food yet. Nonetheless, a bright and lovely café to gather your thoughts or gather with friends.

Ou rfavourite Flat White is served in any of the Artisan cafés but the TTDI branch has that neighbourhood vibe that we like. Having been around longer, the interiors are a bit dim and feel more rustic compared to the newbies with their stylized vintage and utilitarian hip. It can be a bit of a challenge eating off their low tables when you order the plated meals, but the coffee is what it’s all about here. Paired with one of their bite-size pastries or delicious desserts, you’re all set for some coffee indulgence.

Contrary to its name, the baristas and young folks behind this café are actually very  friendly! The Grumpy Cyclist is a haven for cycling enthusiasts: the interior is full of suspended bicycles, cycling-related art and biking paraphernalia. They even have a shower for those needing to freshen up after a ride and a space to service bicycles. But it is a welcoming café with excellent coffee and delicious bakes. The food is brunch-y and hearty with a few creative twists (such as Oliver James: scrambled eggs and bacon on a pancake on toast drizzled with maple syrup - a bit too much for me for now, thankyouverymuch =)).
