Ok.... Don't come here looking for friendly service but who cares... The burgers are fantastic! Do not ask for ketchup either!!!! The burgers come with or without cheese and that's basically your only option! The potato salad is good and the drinks are cold. The place is super small so it may take a minute to get a seat.

History found between slices of white toast. No toppings, no buns, just meat, onion, tomato, and bread. A fun stop in a great town. And only about 90 minutes from the NY metro area. L

There are several burgers now everywhere, but understand that if you go here, you are tasting a piece of history, maybe need flavor, or toppins but is not about that, if you wanna fell and taste a burger same as so manny years ago, when burgers where born, then you should put Louis lunch in your list...

YUM!  Louis' Lunch is an institution! Many make it a standard lunch spot and others visit because of it's history/reputation.  Whether you are a regular or just coming to see what all the hype is about - worth a visit.  Just damn good burgers!!!!
An Experience. This is an experience that you need to enjoy. When you take a bite of this burger you will never get a burger from anywhere else this is a great business and I recommend it to everyone I meet its your duty to visit.

Cheese plain, salid, ginger ale. After seeing LL on the Travel Channel or Food Network a few times over the years i felt it was almost my civic duty to make the 1.5 block trek from our hotel to the establishment to give it a try. I am, after all, a well document burger fanatic. I am not picky - i'll do gourmet, basic, and everything in between (except big chains not named In and Out).

First, loved the burger on toasted bread. as i age i find it harder to ingest mass quantities of bun and bread. Second, loved the medium rare deliciousness of a simple beef patty prepared and served well. Third, the (potato) salid is not to be missed.

Next trip to new haven i'll try it with the onion and tomato. this trip i felt it best to judge it solely on the merits of the beef patty. thumbs way up!

Needs Ketchup. We to visit Louis' Lunch to try the alleged birthplace of the hamburger. I am not opposed to forgoing ketchup or other typical condiments for burgers, if they are well seasoned. Sadly I found the burgers bland and without any flavor so they could have really used that forbidden dressing. The potato salad was pretty good though. Maybe worth the historic novelty, but not impressed with the actual food.

...But Not For Everyone. My burger actually had a very cool dark red center, which differed from most images I had seen. It's just a tad more underdone than what I prefer. While I'm not complaining, at the temperature that I tried it isn't for everyone. My only gripe concerns a total lack of salt. The beefy flavor haunts me a bit in a good way though. Mixed feelings on this one, but great for nostalgia.
