This restaurant is surprisingly good, and everyone loves it. Following is what we ordered for four people:

Steamed Crabmeat & Pork Buns
Pan-fried Pork Dumplings
2 of Shanghai Pan-fried Noodle
Ning Bo Rice Balls

Went two days in a row, had the soup dumplings and the fried mini buns and the house special fried rice, was all really delicious, 10 out of 10 would go again next time I'm in New York

Chow mein was good - not amazing but tasty. Clean, tourist friendly and menus available in English.

EXCELLENT food, HORRIBLE staff. Since moving to the area, my family and I Have been regulars at 456 on Mott. The best Shanghai food in NYC period. Fresh, authentic and surprising attention to detail. The chef(s) clearly knows what he/she is doing. Soup dumplings with Crab Meat rivals the best from Hong Kong...and sadly, even Shanghai (at the famous Yu Gardens no doubt). The rice cake with Chinese spinach and pork is perfect. Kosher it is not, says Yoda. Do yourself a favor and order the pan-fried pork buns to go. Perfect with cold beer and late-night Kung-Fu movies. Staff is typically Chinatown...ie terse and joyless. They tried THREE times (unsuccessfully) to clear the table while we were STILL EATING. Loved it! The pan fried noodles were amazing! Not oilly at all. The soup dumplings were also awesome! I would definitely go back. And it had an "A" for cleanliness.

Absolutely gross. Don't order the pan fried shanghai noodles unless you would like a mouthful of oil. Waiter didn't know what rice meant and it took a long time for him to work it out, except it never came out with our meal even though they charged us for it. Dumplings were nothing to write home about either. Would never bother going back!

Delicious steamed pork dumplings!

Excellent!. Very busy night, for a party of 2, we were seated quickly and the service was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to eat Shanghai food.

Food was fantastic! The cashew chicken was very well balanced (sweet, crunchy and a bit of spice). Service was ok, but compared to some of the other tables we were forgotten about.

What can I say other than absolutely delighted. Far exceeded my expectations. Chicken with hot peppers was amazing. General Tso chicken had best sauce I've ever had. Same for wonton soup. Really impressed.
