Best Hidden Gem. This was a great find! I hard great things about Bacaro but seeing is believing. My gf and I got there for happy hour, and our sweet and knowledgeable bartender (also the owner's husband) made great suggestions on wine, dishes, and dessert. I recommend the Spaghetti Nero with Cuttlefish, don't over look it. The food and the service is a breath of fresh air, finally a place the takes as much pride serving the food as they do preparing it. This was the 1st place we got food together after having been apart for months, this was the perfect choice and this definitely won't be the last time we visit! Thank you
I heart nyc bars - Bacaro. This wine bar-slash-restaurant and once aquarium is tucked away in the nether regions of Chinatown. Bacaro are what are known in Italy as workingman's tapas or "cichetti" bars. The romantic and almost whimsical nooks and crannies in the low-lit bottom cellar are fun for wandering. You can even book their quasi secret and hidden private room. The look is very similar to Peasant's cellar, a restaurant which is also owned by Bacaro's owner/chef. The wine list, which is from Veneto and neighboring northern regions of Italy is a tad pricey. The "ombra" (the Venetian name for a tiny glass) start at $7 (nothing working-class about that).

Prix Fixe is a Rip Off. The Prixe Fixe is a rip off and the attitude from the staff made me choke. When we asked if they could accomodate 3 vegatarians they said yeas and then delivered a huge slab of pork, two steaks, and some deep friend tempura squid. For the money, go somewhere else....

It's a great space. The food is good but not phenomenal. Most dishes are pretty straightforward and if you're a competent cook you can replicate at home. The one exception is the black ink pasta which is yummy. I say have a drink here and then go ear at the owners' other, more worthwhile, restaurant Peasant.
