This is a very cool old restaurant which really is located in an Olde Country Store. We went this route along the Natchez Trace specifically to eat here. If I was rating their fried chicken only, and the friendly staff, I'd give a 5.0. The fried chicken was amazing, as promised. The sweet tea was delicious. I was disappointed in the quality of the sides. I thought there would be all homemade sides, but most (all served buffet style) seemed canned. They did have some other meats..mostly smothered in gravy. I tried the smothered chicken and it was tasty. It is all you can eat, but the price for Sunday lunch was 19.95, which I thought was too high. I'm glad we went. It was a cool experience, and the owner is a sweetheart who comes out and speaks to everyone, and even sings to some patrons. A good true, old south experience. I'm glad we went, but I'd like to see the prices a little more reasonable.

We took a two hour motorcycle ride just to eat here and we're glad we did. The fried chicken and fried pork chops were excellent. Then Mr. D (owner and chef) comes out and serenades the guests. The only negative was our particular server was extremely slow. She never came back to check on us or offer us desert.
Gem in the Country. Old Country Store with antiques, buffet lunch, and outstanding service. Food is home cooked, and very friendly service.

It's not the best.... We drove 130 miles to dirty tables, poor service, and basic food...I'm from Louisiana and a pretty big guy..I know good food and this was not it..when I paid Mr.D said if I find any chicken better than his chicken call him ...I could have named at least 10 gas stations without even thinking about it..

They fried chicken was awesome. There are no bus boys. We had eat at a dirty table. Everyone else that came in after us had to eat at dirty tables. The little wait staff they had just kept piling the dirty plates on other dirty tables. We also had to eat with spoons because there were no clean forks. To top it off the value and the experience are not on the same page. I will not go back and pay fifteen dollars a head to sit at dirty tables and eat with spoons. Sorry. I know it's a holiday weekend but you should be better prepared.
Most of the food was good and the fried chicken is really delicious. But if your a vegetable eater like myself, you may be a little disappointed; they tasted very sour, especially the greens

We drove two and a half hours to try this fried chicken and OMG it did not disappoint. The outside is so deliciously crispy and the inside juicy. The Mac and cheese was good as well and the blackberry cobbler might be the best we ever had!

Our favorite place to eat fried chicken. My husband and I drive 2 1/2 hours several times a year to visit Mr. D & his delightful establishment! You must save room (though with chicken this delicious, that can be a tough assignment) for the blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Mmmm! We always have a wonderful experience and we will continue to visit as long as Mr D cooks chicken!! On our last visit, Mr D even let my husband sing with him!!

Happy Cyclists. My girlfriend and I were riding the Natchez Trace (on an extended bicycle excursion) and some locals in a small nearby town suggested Mr D's Old Country Store. We rode slowly that day in the rain, but made it there by 5 and he kept it open for us. GREAT country food. Yeah, sure, some of it comes from #10 cans, but he SEASONS it wonderfully. Yams, collards, corn on the cob, smothered okra and tomatoes, ribs, pork chops black-eyed peas, white beans, his grandmother's cornbread muffins and excellent fried chicken, plus 'nanner puddin' or peach cobbler for dessert. We asked if we could pitch our tent behind the place and he did better than that, letting us stay in the little building next door--out of the rain and a bathroom, too. THAT's the secret ingredient in Southern country cookin'--HOSPITALITY. Enjoyed it so much we stayed for lunch the next day!

Interesting backstory and nice people, but don't eat there. Institutional potato salad, breads that weren't fresh yesterday, and not much to pick from.
