Even before I arrived in San Francisco, I have heard of Ike's from Adam Richman's show Man Vs. Food. And trying their famous sandwiches was on my to-do list in San Francisco. The line was pretty long and I have to say, after having just one bite from my sandwich, every minute waiting in line was definitely worth it. Every ingredient used was fresh and flavorful. Every morsel was just heaven. Ike's should open all over the world, it's that good.

Yummylicious - the sandwiches are absolutely brilliant. We were there a few days ago, based on reviews and recommendations and all of them turned out to be true. The wait however was quite long - there was a line that took us 10-15mins to get to the counter and a 30min wait for the sandwiches to be served.
We had a Robin Williams, Matt Cain and a Manage e Trios - and they were just yummy. The guy at the counter suggested the Matt Cain and Manage e Trios and I recommend it too.
It has a small sit out to eat, unless you've ordered it to go. There is also an app that you can download to get a discount if it's your first time. The app details are available at the restaurant - you'll have plenty of time to download it while you wait in the line.

Spiffy Tiffy (Avocado, Halal Chicken, Mushrooms, Pepper Jack, Pesto, Provolone)
This is a sandwich I dream of. Immediately I could tell that it was going to be a great experience because of the distribution of toppings across the sandwich. All too often at other shops the meat is packed in the back corner of the bun, allowing the veggies to spill out. This reduces the quality of each bite and makes it hard to eat.
The Spiffy Tiffy sandwich was perfect. The pesto blended well with the mushrooms and provolone. The lettuce gave a nice but not overpowering crunch of freshness. I have yet to have a better sandwich better this one.
Hot Momma Huda (Buffalo Wing Sauce, Halal Chicken, Provolone, Ranch)
This sandwich didn't pack a punch of buffalo sauce (which I think can dominate and ruin a meal). Many buffalo sauce infused foods sometimes can rule the entire slot of ingredients. The sauce was toned down by the ranch which created nice creamy bites. Only thing I would change is to have a few more toppings that mixed up the texture and crunch of the sandwich. I would have liked to add a few crispy veggies to break up the soft bread and chicken. Next time :)

Ike's Place (Sandwiches/Subs). Ike's Place, whether the beloved San Francisco or lesser known South Bay location, always puts out culinary masterpieces shoved between two slices of bread. Options range from the standard (ham and cheese) to the insane (I can't even describe). Personal favorites include everything. Literally every sandwich crafted at Ike's is worth eating. Anyone can easily find an entree to savor: for the vegetarian, some 30 meatless sandwiches, the meat lover, a ton of pork and bird, and the San Franciscan, a pile of sports-themed sammies from the city by the bay (such as the Tim Lincecum). My personal favorite is the menage a trois. Granted, the name, like most at Ike's, fails to accurately describe the dish. This sandwich consists of a heavenly combination of honey glazed chicken breast, honey mustard, and mayo. When placed on a Dutch Crunch bun, it'll brighten up even the foggiest SF lunch. You'll be seeing me at Ike's right around noon from now on.

There are a boatload of sandwiches to choose from so I would suggest looking over their menu online before getting there, otherwise you might be a little overwhelmed by all the options. I had the Matt Cain and loved it. It's definitely a place you should stop by if you're ever in the S.F. area and it's just a few blocks from the BART so it's quick to access wherever you may be in the city.
