I'm lucky enough to have moved in near Ton Kiang recent key and was recommended this place while getting my nails done on Geary Ave.
Lucky me! This food is delicious, fresh and delivery was fast.
I tried the Spicy Basil Clams which were spot on favorable and as stated spicy.
The Dim Sum was cheap at about $4. Baked BBQ pork buns were some of the best I've had ever and the fried shrimp balls... OMG! The Shanghai dumpling were light and juicy and I had the tin foil wrapped chicken which had caramelized veggies inside these little bundles.
All in all a great find and I will be making this my Chinese food here in SF from here on- thanks for a great meal

Gustatory. Dinner twelve upstairs, including four children under nine. Combination of dim sum and main courses. Pleasant experience.

Got there at 11:30 am Saturday and sat right down. Everything was great! Kids liked the sautéed steak in birds nest (eat the bowl!).

Really Good and Really Busy. We love Ton Kiang dim sum. It is always fresh and good. Shrimp and pork dumplings, pork buns, shanghai dumplings. It is all good. We also love the custard pancakes for dessert.

Ton Kiang. The best dim sum anywhere. The food is so good here it will haunt your dreams.

Excellent Chinese Food. Dinner on 02/06/2011

So I went to Gold Mountain (in North Beach near Chinatown) last weekend for what I considered the best Chinese food to date since I moved here five years ago. Then I came to Ton Kiang last night. I would have to say that overall, the service was on par with Gold Mountain, but the food and ambiance was really a notch above. My new go to place for Chinese.

Come here if.... you want great Chinese food.

Don't come here if.... you don't like Chinese food?

Very Good & Hot Dim Sum!. Had a nice lunch today with my girlfriend. She had a nice dining experience as this was her first dim sum. The dim sum was very good and hot! Fast service! Reasonably priced. Left very full. It was busy on a Monday at lunch. Was worth the cab ride from Union Square as we were from out of town. We took the bus back #38. Heard of this place from urbanspoon but also the hotel concierge. Would recommend it to others. We went for a nice walk afterwards to Lincon Park and the beach to burn off our lunch - that was great scenary! If in the the mood for some good dim sum would recommend this place.

Excellent dim sum with average service in an unremarkable spot. You go here for the piping hot, almost perfectly made dim sum! After two years of regular visits, we return time and time again - with very happy stomaches!
Always a Good Experience. We've eaten here many times, and have always enjoyed it. The dim sum is excellent quality, and they have a pretty decent variety. My only complaint is that they seem to have a lot of selections with shrimp, which I'm not too crazy about. I would prefer more with pork and/or vegetables, but nevertheless there was more than enough to choose from. They also have some good desserts, one of which are the almond cookie pastries, which are soft and pyramid shaped. Not something I've seen in every Chinese restaurant. This does get crowded on weekends, so be prepared to wait to get in. This is a lively, popular place, and we've always had a good experience here.

Excellent Dim Sum. I have voted that "I like" this - but, I have never written a review before on this excellent Chinese Dim Sum restaurant. Ton Kiang, in my opinion, is the best Dim Sum I have had.

Having lived in San Francisco for several years and now living in Portland - I am always using Ton Kiang's as the measuring stick for other Chinese Dim Sum restaurants and - so far - no other restaurant has met or exceeded the expecations that Ton Kiang's has set.

Many Americans, on their first enounter, may feel the service is swift and "cold-like" but, to me, that is typical of most Chinese restaurants - until they get to know you. Then you treated much better. The selections, as they come out hot from the kitchen, may be confusing for some, too, on their first try. So, for those who have not tried it before, here are some of my favorite Dim Sum dishes (in English):

Barbequed Pork Buns, Steamed Pork Buns, Shrimp Dumplings... read more
